Deep Summer
“Deep summer is when laziness finds respectability”… Sam Keen
“Rest is not idleness, and to lie sometimes on the grass on a summer day listening to the murmur of water or watch the clouds float across the sky, is hardly a waste of time”… Johnny Lubock
It’s July 31st.
We are deep into summer.
How quickly the time passes.
One night last week, I found myself in a quiet moment of rest on our back patio (not on the grass’!) after a demanding and troubling day.
I could feel the distress emanating through my body.
I watched our aging dog Tessa explore our lily pond with the sound of the waterfall echoing behind her.
Then a sudden summer thunderstorm turned my attention upwards to the sky and a menacing cloud formation quickly passing overhead.
The sound of the water and the action of the storm above quickly brought a feeling of calmness and serenity to the stressful demands I was carrying from my day.
In that moment, I was grateful for the experience and benefits of ‘deep summer’.
Over to you.
How is deep summer helping you nurture and navigate your life?
